The godfather of inspirational writing, Napoleon Hill, was a great believer in you have to think and believe what it is you want to achieve. You have to get almost possessed with obtaining a goal. Here is a great excerpt from one of his many amazing books:
“There is one quality that one must possess to win, and
that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what
one wants and the burning desire to achieve it.”
~Napoleon Hill
I just read a very profound essay from Earl Nightingale. I suspect this is the entire platform for the recently hyped “the secret” And while I believe “The Secret” is a little wacky for me, I do believe in the core philosophy that says if you can think it, you can achieve it. Click the video below to hear the essay.
Nothing is more true than this statement. Until you realize a very specific goal, you will go no where. If you obsess about a goal, live it, breath it, talk about it, dream about it, it would be impossible for you NOT to achieve it.
Listen to this story, or buy it at Amazon, it will change your life!
Something that I have finally learned, after 15 years of being in business is that no matter what type of situation you are in, try to take it in and enjoy it for what it is worth. I have found that in bad times, I am constantly waiting for the good times and in the good times, constantly over-analyzing and worrying about them and anticipating bad times.
Good and Bad times have something very interesting in common, they are both taking up precious moments of your time. Time is good no matter how you play it. It is truly the only thing you have, so you might as well enjoy it for what its worth.
Enjoy the bad times - appreciate them. The bad times, unfortunately, is the time we learn most. Enjoy, as much as you can, the learning situation you are in. Know that you will 100% be out of it one way or another, so while you are in it, appreciate it.
Enjoy the good times - this seems to be harder for me than the previous. When the good is going (and it is never perfect) enjoy every second. Appreciate everything. Say it out loud. Know that it is impossible to last, but that you will appreciate the moment whenever you can.
I know this is way easier said than done, but it is a very simple truth!
One of the most inspirational stories on how close the line between success and failure was from of the best books ever on the topic, Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill.
In the story, there was a gold miner back in the gold rush who bought land that he knew in his gut had a lot of gold in it. He was there for years digging away with a pick ax. Although he came up with some small quantities here and there, in his eyes, just was not worth continuing on, so he stuck his pick into the ground, walked away and sold the lot for a rock bottom price.
A month later, the new owner of the lot decided to start prospecting where the previous owner left off. Not a day goes by and the new owner, just 3 feet from where the previous owner left off, discovered the largest gold mine in the San Francisco area.
This happens more than most people think. Don’t give up, stay passionate, work hard and you will see success beyond your wildest dreams. Staying positive in tough times is hard, but more often than not, your biggest low point is quickly followed up by major high points. “It is always darkest before the dawn”.
I just finished up a book about 212 degrees. The short version of the story is that water, at 211 degrees, is just hot water. When it is 212 degrees, water boils, and can create enough energy to move a train.
The moral of this story is dont ever stop, dont ever give up and dont ever think that you cant make it. You could be just 1 degree from success, sometimes it is just hard to see.
Read an inspirational quote, meditate, exercise, do what ever fuels you when you think that you are defeated. You will be surprised how much your mind can do when you change your attitude.
I am a true believer that the only way to be is optimistic. Not once in my professional or personal life has pessimism ever helped me. I am not saying you should go through life with blinders on and see no evil in anything. I am just saying that looking at things with an optimistic viewpoint is always the most advantageous way of approaching things. What, dont trust me? Here is a great quote from one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) leaders of all time:
“For myself, I am an optimist–it does not seem
to be much use being anything else.”
–Winston Churchill
Luck is one of those things. Some people believe it in, others don’t. I think I am right down the middle. I believe it is there, but I believe you have to create your own luck from persistence and taking chances. Here is a great positive quote from one of my favorite authors:
“I’ve found that luck is quite predictable. If you want more luck, take more chances. Be more active. Show up more often.”
-Brian Tracy
This quote is so true. Take action, make something happen, the more you do this, the more luck you will have!
Something that I feel so strongly in, serious success comes only after many experiences in learning from your failures. Here is a great quote:
“A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation
with the bricks others have thrown at him.” -David Brinkley
No one likes failures, but in business and life it is un-avoidable. Learn from them, you will cherish each and every one of them.

One of my favorite quotes from Theodore Roosevelt:
“Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”
You will find passion and inspiration if you are doing what it is you feel you were meant to do. Life is way to short to spend more than 1 minute on something you are not passionate about.
I hear so many people down on this economy. I will tell you, in the 12 years I have been in business, I have never seen so much opportunity flying everywhere. You can buy about anything for cheap. People are going out of business left and right. Use this to your advantage. Get aggressive, take risks and in 2010 you will be that much stronger as a result.
